Stevin and his helpers created a memory garden and friendship benches at a school.
The 55×12½-foot area was dedicated to a volunteer at the school who passed away from the complications of Cystic Fibrosis. The volunteer’s motto was “you never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have!” The friendship benches were added to the area to signify no one is alone.
The initial area had many overgrown plants, erosion, weeds and trash. The memory garden was made with sustainable wood and succulent plants. A garden club was created at the school where the fifth graders would help maintain the area.
