Modified GaGa Ball Pits to Be Wheelchair Accessible

Tyler and his helpers collaborated with the Olmsted Falls City School District and the Helping Hands Organization to modify two existing GaGa ball pits, ensuring students in wheelchairs could fully participate in the game.

One of the pits required extensive groundwork, with a team of 27 scout families and Tyler’s relatives working together to remove the grass, transport it in wheelbarrows, and lay four tons of rock in preparation for the concrete foundation. Thanks to a grant from Helping Hands, the concrete was poured to create a stable surface for the pit and an accessible sidewalk. They also transformed one of the pit’s sides into a functional door by adding wood, hinges, a lock and a caster wheel.

For the second GaGa ball pit, which was already on asphalt, they repeated the door modification, ensuring both pits were wheelchair accessible. Through their efforts, Tyler and his team created an inclusive space where all students could enjoy the game together.
