Travis and his helpers created a monument honoring female veterans, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the military. At the time, only two other memorials in the nation were dedicated solely to female veterans. With a personal connection to his community’s Veterans Park, Travis wanted to add a tribute specifically for women who served. His county, home to many female veterans, is now the site of what is considered the nation’s third and his state’s first monument dedicated to female veterans.
