Lawrence and his helpers mapped all existing and newly installed culverts along approximately 8 miles of trails on the east side of Wunderlich Park. Previously, San Mateo County Park Rangers did not have a comprehensive culvert map for the park. This new map will allow park staff to proactively clean and maintain culverts throughout the year, preventing blockages that could lead to uncontrolled runoff and erosion of the trails. When culverts were blocked, water flowed over or down trails, causing significant erosion that damaged the groomed paths.
This comprehensive map will serve as a valuable checklist for park staff and future volunteers, supporting the ongoing maintenance and preservation of the park’s trails.
