Solar Power for a School in Haiti

Alex worked with the non profit organization Solar Under the Sun, along with volunteers in Hess, Haiti, a very poor community high in the Haitian mountains. He helped raise the funds to buy the equipment to teach community volunteers how to install solar power in their school. This experience can eventually help bring solar power to the entire community.

The project involved installing 165 watt solar panel on a 30 foot pole, developing a power board for AC and DC power, maintaining 2 6 volt batteries, installing 12 AC outlets, and DC lights in 6 class rooms. This was at the St. Jean the Evangelist School. Many students from the school stayed to watch the process because most had never seen an electric light.
