Improvements to a School in Nepal

For my Eagle Service Project, I worked with the non-profit called, Pioneer Foundation Nepal. For this school, I designed and built two toilets: one for the girls and one for the boys. I transformed a classroom into a library. We painted the walls, painted a very special mural, and bought big metal bookshelves to protect the books from rats! We also cleaned and painted the walls in the computer room. We then fixed all the broken computer (from the earthquake), installed three brand new computers, a color printer/scanner and an internet router. We moved a lot of the earthquake rubble to make the school ground safe again for the students to play. We collected over 30 bags of trash and taught the villagers to separate plastic from paper. After that we replaced the volleyball nets and made two swings for the school. We counted and distributed 1,820 lbs of donation items: school supplies, sports equipment, First Aid Kits, blankets, clothes, hygiene items, and blankets to five neighboring schools and villagers. We also filled 350 school backpack with school supplies for the students. I raised $13,834. With left over money, the headmaster of the school decided to make small scholarship funds to help the poorer students and their families rebuild their homes. I had 58 volunteers of which 31 came with me to Nepal (fr Malaysia, Lebanon and the US). My total service hours = 1,834 hours. My video = https://youtu.be/OclhDX8PeBE

Nicolas worked with a non profit organization called Pioneer Foundation Nepal, to make improvements to Sree Rameshawary School in Bungkot, Nepal. Improvements he and his volunteers made include:

  • Transforming a classroom into a library – painting walls, adding a mural and big metal bookshelves to protect the books from rats.
  • Cleaning and painting the walls in a computer room, fixing broken computers and installing three new computers, a color printer/scanner and a router.

Nicolas completed his project through the help of 58 volunteers – of which 31 went with him to Nepal. In addition to the school facility improvements, they counted and distributed 1,820 pounds of donated items: school supplies, sports equipment, First Aid Kits, blankets, clothes, hygiene items, and blankets to five neighboring schools and villagers. They also filled 350 school backpack with school supplies for the students.

To fund the project, Nicolas raised $13,834. With the money left over, the headmaster of the school created a small scholarship funds to help the poorer students and their families rebuild their homes.
