Henry and his helpers from Troop 12 carried out a project called Building Love, in which they created and distributed 200 Lego rose kits to children recently diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Each kit allowed a child to build two LEGO roses — one to keep and one to give to someone they love—bringing a moment of creativity and connection during a challenging time.
The project originally began in 2020 when Henry’s aunt, a nurse, told him about a young patient undergoing chemotherapy who, like Henry, had a passion for LEGO. Inspired to help, Henry attempted to send the child a Lego Ninjago dragon set, but due to HIPAA laws, he couldn’t send it directly. Instead, he created 10 smaller LEGO kits and delivered them to children in the same hospital’s cancer ward.
The timing of that first effort coincided with Valentine’s Day, prompting Henry to design kits featuring two Lego roses. Thus, Building Love was born. Over the years, the project grew steadily, and 2025 marked Henry’s fifth consecutive year distributing kits. For his Eagle Scout project, he expanded the initiative significantly, rallying the support of Troop 12 Montclair and the Charlie Landers Foundation to sort, package and distribute 19,200 LEGO bricks — more than tripling the number of children reached by the project.
